A professional organizer side hustle in Canada sells hours of decluttering, closet and pantry set-up, and move packing to households, and January is when people book it after the holidays. Canadian organizers that publish rates charge $65 to $125 an hour for one person and $110 to $200 an hour for a team of two, usually with a four-hour minimum. There is no official certification in Canada, according to Professional Organizers in Canada (POC). Rates below were read on each company’s own page on October 19, 2026.

What do Canadian professional organizers charge?
Canadian professional organizers charge by the hour per organizer, with packages for larger projects and add-ons for travel, consultations and hauling. These are the published rates on October 19, 2026:
| Company (area) | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Harmony Home Organizing (Vancouver, Victoria) | One junior organizer $65/hour; team of 2 $160/hour | 4-hour minimum; in-home consultation $50; handyman $80/hour, 2-hour minimum |
| Neat Freakss (Calgary) | $110/hour, which includes 2 organizers | Bronze package 6 hours from $625; Silver 18 hours from $1,875; senior and student pricing on request |
| Cut The Clutter | One organizer $90/hour; experienced specialist $125/hour; 2-person team $200/hour; 2 packers $170/hour | Minimum booking 4 hours; hoarding recovery packages from $5,000 |
| In and Out Organizing (Toronto and GTA) | $85/hour | Four-hour minimum; also downsizing and estate clearing |
| OrganiZen by Liora (Toronto) | $90/hour | 3-hour minimum; 1-hour on-site planning meeting $80, deducted from the job once booked; personal shopping from $80/hour |
| Zen N Organized (Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga) | $90/hour; each extra organizer $85/hour | 3-hour minimum in person, 1-hour minimum virtual |
| Julie’s Organizing Services (East Hants and Halifax, N.S.) | $75/hour + tax (effective July 17, 2026) | 3-hour minimum ($225 + tax); 6 hours a day maximum; 30-minute increments; travel within 35 km included, then $0.59/km |
| Simply Organized For You (South Surrey) | $118/hour + 5% GST for 2 organizers | Travel fees by zone from $40; home staging flat rate $750 + GST for up to 5 hours |
Notice that team rates are not double the solo rate. Neat Freakss’ $110 for two is $55 per organizer-hour. A solo side hustler at $65 to $90 an hour sits in the middle of this table. Julie’s page adds the number that matters for quoting: most of its clients book 6 to 18 hours per room or focused area, so a single room is often two to four visits, not one.
Do you need a certification to be a professional organizer in Canada?
No certification is required to work as a professional organizer in Canada. POC’s membership questions page says there are no official credentials, that no Canadian non-profit organizing association offers a certification program, and that its Trained Professional Organizer program is training, not accreditation. POC says that training does not entitle anyone to use words such as certified, accredited or qualified in marketing, or the initials TPO.
What POC does offer:
- Membership: $270 a year plus a one-time $50 administrative fee.
- Directory listing: new members appear in the “Find an Organizer” directory after three classes: Introduction to Professional Organizing, Ethical Standards for POC Members, and Safety Practices for Professional Organizers.
- Insurance: a business insurance program available to members only.
- A pricing course: POC offers a Fees and Billing course, and lists expertise, experience, location, travel distance and local competition as the factors in setting a rate.
POC also points to the Board of Certified Professional Organizers for the CPO certification, and to the Institute for Challenging Disorganization for work with chronically disorganized clients.
What does KonMari certification cost from Canada?
KonMari’s consultant program page lists the course at US$2,998 paid in full (or a deposit from US$500 to reserve a spot; its prerequisites include reading Marie Kondo’s two books) and an annual membership and licensing fee of US$500, paid after a passed evaluation and kept up each year to use the “KonMari Consultant” name. At the Bank of Canada rate of 1.4154 CAD per USD on October 16, 2026, that is about $4,243 for the course and $708 a year. Like POC’s training, it is optional: POC says no official organizing credential exists in Canada.
| Option | Up-front | Yearly | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| No credential | $0 | $0 | Portfolio, reviews and a written service agreement |
| POC membership | $50 admin fee | $270 | Directory listing after 3 classes, members’ insurance program, courses |
| KonMari Consultant | US$2,998 (about $4,243) | US$500 (about $708) | Right to use the KonMari Consultant name; course plus practice hours and an evaluation |
Which organizing services sell in January?
The organizing services that sell in January are the ones tied to holiday gifts, new-year resolutions and tax-season paperwork. These 15 services fit a part-time organizer, each with the reason it sells:
- Post-holiday toy and kids’ room reset. New gifts, no room for them.
- Closet edit with donation drop-off. Winter clothes are out; summer clothes can be stored.
- Pantry and fridge reset. Holiday leftovers and resolutions meet.
- Holiday decoration packing and labelling. The bins go back to the basement in January.
- Home office set-up for tax season. Receipts and slips arrive in February.
- Paper and mail sort. Pairs with record keeping for side hustles if the client runs one.
- Garage shelving plan. Measured in January, installed when it warms up.
- Downsizing for seniors. Slow, careful work; specialists charge more (Cut The Clutter’s $125).
- Move prep for spring listings. Agents list in spring; decluttering starts now.
- Rental and condo storage locker sort. Small space, fixed time.
- Craft and hobby room set-up. Supplies bought over the holidays.
- Laundry room and linen closet. A good four-hour minimum job.
- Kitchen cabinet reset. Duplicate gadgets go to donation.
- Basement playroom to guest room. Holiday visitors showed the need.
- Virtual organizing sessions. Video calls for clients outside your area.
What tools does an organizer bring to a job?
An organizer brings labelling, measuring and sorting tools to every job, and leaves storage products for the client to buy or approve. These were the Amazon.ca prices on October 19, 2026:
| Item | Product | Price (Amazon.ca, Oct 19, 2026) | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Label maker, basic | Brother P-touch PT-N10 | $21.99 | Keyboard labels on pantry jars and bins |
| Label maker, phone app | Brother P-Touch PT-N25BT | $29.99 | Bluetooth; design labels on your phone between jobs |
| Clear drawers (client-approved) | Vtopmart 4-pack stackable drawers | $35.99 | Bathroom and makeup counters; invoice at cost or have the client order |
Bags, a tape measure, gloves and a marker round out the kit in the job-day checklist below.
Illustrative example: one January of weekend organizing
This is an illustrative example. The hourly rates come from the published pages above; the number of bookings, your supply costs and travel are assumptions.
- Assumed rate: $75 an hour solo, between Harmony’s $65 junior rate and Cut The Clutter’s $90.
- Assumed bookings: one 4-hour minimum job each Saturday and Sunday for 4 weekends = 8 jobs = 32 hours.
- Revenue: 32 × $75 = $2,400.
- Assumed costs: $15 a job in labels, bags and bins you bring = $120; $10 a job in fuel and parking = $80.
- Left before tax: $2,400 − $120 − $80 = $2,200, or $2,200 ÷ 32 = $68.75 an hour.
- POC membership, if you join in January: $270 + $50 = $320, so $2,200 − $320 = $1,880 for the month.
| Jobs in January (4 hours each) | Revenue at $75 | Left after $25 a job in supplies and travel |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | $1,200 | $1,100 |
| 8 | $2,400 | $2,200 |
| 12 | $3,600 | $3,300 |
Supplies the client keeps (bins, drawer dividers, shelving) should be bought with the client’s approval and invoiced at cost, or bought by the client. POC lists “the purchase of supplies” as one of the policies to put in your service agreement.
Illustrative example: quoting one room
This is illustrative. The 6-to-18-hour range and the rates are from Julie’s and the other pages above; the 12-hour estimate is an assumption.
| Room estimate | At $75 (Julie’s rate) | At $90 (Liora, Zen N Organized) | Visits at a 6-hour daily maximum |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 hours | $450 | $540 | 1 |
| 12 hours | $900 | $1,080 | 2 |
| 18 hours | $1,350 | $1,620 | 3 |
Formula: estimated hours × hourly rate, plus tax if you are registered. Quote a range, not a fixed price, and say the billing increment (Julie’s uses 30 minutes).
What does a first-client plan look like?
A first-client plan starts in November with a portfolio of your own home and one or two friends’, then books January dates before the holidays end.
| Weeks | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Organize your own pantry and one closet; take before and after photos with no personal items visible |
| 2 | Do two free or discounted sessions for friends in exchange for photos and a review |
| 3 | Write a service agreement: rate, 4-hour minimum, cancellation, supplies, donation runs |
| 4 | Post a “January reset” offer locally; offer a gift card for holiday shoppers |
| 5 to 6 | Book January weekends; confirm each job in writing |
| 7 to 10 | Deliver the jobs; ask each client for a review and one referral |

Which tax rules apply to a professional organizer side hustle in Canada?
Organizing income is self-employment income reported on Form T2125, with supplies, travel, POC dues and insurance as expenses. GST/HST registration is required once taxable sales pass $30,000 in a calendar quarter or four consecutive calendar quarters, under the CRA’s when to register rules. Simply Organized’s page quotes its rate “+ 5% GST”, which is how a registered B.C. business shows it. This is not tax, legal, or insurance advice.
What can this guide not confirm?
This guide cannot confirm what an organizer can charge in your city (no Montreal or Prairie-city rates outside Calgary were confirmed for this guide), what business insurance costs you, the KonMari fee in Canadian dollars on the day you pay (it is set in US dollars), or whether any of these companies’ rates changed after October 19, 2026. None of the companies above publishes income or bookings, so the January example uses assumed job counts. This is not tax, legal, or insurance advice.
Which guides sit next to professional organizing?
- House cleaning: the same households, a recurring service.
- Moving help: packing and lifting when a declutter becomes a move.
- Junk removal: hauling what the client lets go.
- New Year side hustles for 2027: other January work.
